PHE?s Semar surfactant raises output in Sudan

The injection of the so-called Semar surfactant by PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) in Bamboo West field in Sudan has resulted in a significant production increase of the field.

Eko Rukmono, PHE's Manager for Africa & Middle East, said the effectiveness of Semar has been shown by the fact the Bamboo West (BBW) field produced a cumulative incremental oil of 17,192 barrel at an average production of 1,266 bopd during a monitoring period of three months.

The Semar surfactant technology is owned by PHE and was developed by Indonesia?s Institute Technology of Bandung (ITB).

"Semar has proved to stimulate and promote some undrained oil pools in higher area as shown by significant incremental oil production from the BBW 27 well," said Eko during the 37th Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) Conference and Exhibition in Jakarta on Thursday.

He explained that the BBW field still has opportunity to increase its oil production significantly using either the Huff & Puff method as seen at the BBW 27 well or the Continuous Injection method as seen at the BBW 21 and BBW 23 wells..
