Upstream company PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, is still seeking for a crane barge with capacity of up to 1,000 tons to lift a tilting platform at the West Madura Offshore (WMO) block, offshore East Java.

?The plan is to move the tilting platform to a yard to be preserved, while the jacket is being repaired. But it can?t be done yet pending the availability of the crane barge, with minimum capacity of 1,000 tons. PHE WMO is still looking (for the crane barge),? said Deputy for Operation at upstream oil and gas authority SKK Migas, Fatar Yani told Petromindo.com.

Separately, PHE President Director Gunung Sardjono said that an independent team has recommended the company to cut down the topside of the troubled platform to be transported to a yard for repair.

?The recommendation is that the best option is to cut down the topside to be brought to a yard and conduct geotechnical survey before the monsoon,? Gunung told Petromindo.com, adding that the recommendation would be quickly submitted to SKK Migas. He did not provide further details.

As has been previously reported, PHE has engaged an independent team to help fix trouble at one of the platforms in the WMO block which tilted.

SKK Migas has previously advised PHE to select one of two options in dealing with the platform trouble, either by strengthening the jacket or a second option of slashing the platform topside.

Gunung earlier acknowledged that the platform trouble could delay potential oil production of 1,500-2,000 bpd. ?Starting August, three wells were supposed to have reached full production capacity,? he said.

PHE WMO has an 80 percent interest in the block. According to company website, PHE WMO operates 10 platforms on 98 wells.
