PHE WMO finds new play in East Java basin

PT Pertamina Hulu Energi West Madura Offshore (PHE WMO) has found a new play in the East Java basin, which potentially could increase oil and gas production in the future, parent company state-owned PT Pertamina said in a statement on Wednesday.
The company said that exploration result in the southern area of JS-1 Ridge, the PHE48-1 and PHE 2901 wells, shows indication of hydrocarbons at the Ngimbang Clastic and Fractured Basement levels.
Exploration Manager of PHE WMO Dwi Mandhiri said the company has been making a series of evaluation to study the new oil and gas potential. ?The test result at PHE 29-1 well indicates the presence of oil and gas hydrocarbons, which if seen from the acreage could provide a new hope for an increase of Pertamina reserves in the future,? he said in a statement.
?The oil and gas findings at the Basement and Ngimbang Clastic levels provide a very huge opportunity for Pertamina to increase oil and gas production in the future because several basins in East Java and in the eastern part of Indonesia have a number of locations with similar geological model,? Dwi added.
He, however, said that despite the prospect, the company is facing challenges as drill stem test of basement level at PHE 29-1, and DST of Ngimbang Clastic formation at PHE 48-1 well, quantitatively have yet to show positive trend.
