PHE WMO strikes new reserve offshore Madura

After being pushed by upstream authority BPMIGAS, PT Pertamina Hulu Energy West Madura Offshore (PHE WMO) managed to strike a new oil and gas reserve in its first exploration well offshore Madura.
"The new field is expected to start production of oil and gas in the third quarter of this year," BPMIGAS Operational Deputy Rudi Rubiandini told Petromindo.com in Jakarta on Thursday.
The find was resulted from drilling of exploration well PHE KE38-2, reaching 506 feet of gas zone and 113 feet of oil zone in Kujung I formation. It is one of 9 exploration wells to be spudded during 2012.
Data derived from the well have similarities with those of other wells in PHE KE38A field, which has an initial production of oil at 3,500 barrels per day (bopd) and gas at 10 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) in Kujung formation I.
"We hope there will be five production wells that can be spudded this year so that PHE can increase its production significantly. That's important because it is expected as the source of main increase to the national production," he said.
Other main source of production increase are from TEPI in Kalimantan, CPI in Sumatra, and from PT Pertamina EP fields.
PHE WMO is expected to construct new platform on PHE KE38B in August this year so that the new field can start production in the third quarter of this year.
The PHE KE38-2 spudding was started on 24th February 2012 and the oil strike was on 12nd March 2012 in Kujung I formation.
The PHE KE38-2 is located about 3.5 km southeast of PHE KE38A platform. It was spudded on one reef of PHE KE38A that has been in production. There are 6 reefs around the exploration well PHE KE38-2.
Previously, it was reported that two new production wells of West Madura Offshore block, operated by PT Pertamina Hulu Energi WMO, have begun flowing oil and gas.
Rudi Rubiandini.said that the wells were PHE KE38A21, which produces oil of 2,400 bopd and 5 mmscfd of gas and PHE KE30A6 which was recorded to produce 2,500 bopd and 0.6 mmscfd of gas.
Total production of the WMO now reached 15,542 bopd and 148.4 mmscfd, representing an increase of around 5,000 bopd and 7 mmscfd from end of January 2012.
