PHM completes final topside installation for Sisi Nubi Project

PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) has successfully installed the sixth and final topside platform for the Sisi Nubi (SNB) Additional Offshore Installation (AOI) Project, marking a major milestone in its ongoing efforts to sustain production from the mature Mahakam gas field offshore East Kalimantan.

The announcement was made by Reynold Calvin, a Project Management representative at PHM, in a LinkedIn post on Friday. According to Calvin, the installation of the final topside represents a crucial step in ensuring the long-term sustainability of operations in the Mahakam Working Area.

“During the course of 2024 to 2025, the SNB AOI Project has successfully fabricated and installed 6 TRIAS jackets, 6 topsides, 3 platform extensions, 18 risers, and 6 pipelines,” he wrote. “This equates to approximately 11,000 metric tons of steel lifted and set, plus 22 kilometers of pipeline installed — all completed with around 8 million safe man-hours and zero lost-time incidents.”

The completion of all six topside installations follows the third “Sail Away” event on May 16, which marked the departure of platforms WPN5 and WPN6 from PT Meindo Elang Indah’s fabrication yard in Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands. These platforms are now installed 25 kilometers offshore in the Sisi Nubi field, part of the larger Mahakam block operated by PHM.

Each platform is expected to produce up to 30 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas. Drilling activities are planned for the second half of 2025, with initial production anticipated to begin in the fourth quarter.

The SNB AOI Project is part of PHM’s broader strategy to revitalize declining output from mature fields through new infrastructure and efficient offshore development. The project is also a key contributor to Indonesia’s goal of maintaining national energy resilience and increasing domestic gas production.

At the same May 16 event, PHM also initiated fabrication for another strategic development — the Manpatu Project in the South Mahakam cluster — with a First Cut of Steel ceremony. That project, located about 60 kilometers south of the Senipah Terminal, is expected to deliver up to 80 MMSCFD of gas.
