PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM), operator of the Mahakam block in East Kalimantan Province, started on Monday distribution of gas to the household gas pipeline network in Muara Badak District of the province’s Kutai Kartanegara Regency.
Benny Sidik, Vice President for Field Operations at PHM, the country’s second largest gas producer, said that the upstream oil and gas authority SKK Migas has requested the company to distribute as much as 0.2 mmscfd of gas to the Kutai Kartanegara household gas network, which supplies gas to 5,000 households in the regency.
He said that the gas comes from the block’s Tambora, Tunu and Sini Nubi fields distributed via the Tunu Receiving Facility in Muara Badak.
He expected that going forward more households can benefit from gas produced by PHM.
PHM, an indirect subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, has been struggling to lift oil and gas production at the Mahakam block due among others to aging field condition and tough condition of the assets which are mostly located in swamp areas. PHM took over the block from previous operator Total E&P in early 2018.
