PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam (PHM) a unit of Pertamina’s  upstream sub-holding PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) that operates the Mahakam block offshore East Kalimantan, has brought its Sisi Nubi Area of Interest (AOI) 1-3-5 project onstream, beginning with first gas from well SS-401 at the WPS4 platform on 4 December, the company said.

The well initially produced 2.4 MMscfd and ramped up to 10 MMscfd on 5 December. A second well, SS-406, is scheduled to be opened on 6 December, with combined output from both wells expected to reach 20 MMscfd by 8 December.

Sisi Nubi AOI involves six new offshore platforms, three deck extensions, and 22 km of subsea pipelines in water depths of 60–80 meters, connecting 36 development wells to existing Mahakam Block facilities.

PHM said further assessment and drilling activity is underway, supported by two jack-up rigs operating on separate platforms.

Sisi Nubi AOI is part of PHM’s broader effort to sustain production at the Mahakam Working Area, a mature gas asset in East Kalimantan. The company noted that production at Mahakam continues to decline naturally and that new wells are needed to maintain supply.
