The association of Indonesian engineers (PII) and the training and education center of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will cooperate in preparing the certification of the "competent person" in determining or estimating mineral deposits in certain concession areas.

Herman Afif Kusuomo, the chairman of the association?s vocational department said in Jakarta on Tuesday that the two institutions had jointly opened a number of vocational courses on estimation of mineral deposits before working on the standardization program.

He said that both PII and the ministry would also work out the standardization of the qualification needed for the competent persons in doing their jobs. "The competency standardization should win accreditation from the National Accreditation Committee and National Standardization Agency," he said.

The competent person certification is issued to an individual appraiser. With such certification, the person has the capability and competency in determining the value or volume of mineral deposits in certain areas. (*)
