The Indonesian Pipe Makers Association urged the government to issue a policy prevent cheaper pipe imports in a bid to rescue the ailing local pipe industry, the Bisnis Indonesia daily reported on Wednesday.
Association chairman Murbiantoro accused foreign pipe makers of dumping practices, which caused the pipe imports to be cheaper.
Murbiantoro also appealed to the oil and gas projects in Indonesia to use local pipe because the products have obtained the American Petroleum Standard certification.
He criticized oil and gas projects in the country, which used imported pipes sold here through dumping practices.
"It's sad to see that most of the imported pipes entering Indonesia particularly those used for the Natuna and Caltex projects are made through dumping practices," he said.(*)
