Pipe leak won?t affect Chevron?s oil production

PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI) said that its oil production would not be affected by the leakage on its oil pipeline linking Bangko and Dumai in Riau.

Upstream authority SKK Migas Operational Control Deputy Gde Pradnyana said in Jakarta on Wednesday that despite of the leakage there had been no wells stop operations. ?All wells continue production activities despite of the leakage. Their production was temporarily stored on the collecting stations,? he said.

He said that CPI production will still be in line with the Work Program and Budget (WP&B) 2013 agreed by SKK Migas. ?So, it won?t affect our national oil production,? he said.

According to him, the leakage on the 30 inch pipe occurred on Tuesday at 10.00 pm Western Indonesian Time (WIB) at a point before the sub-district office of Pematang Ibul along the road linking Bangko and Dumai. But on Tuesday night at 23.00 pm PT CPI managed to fix the problem.

The oil pipeline, which was built in 1970, spans about 76 kilometers from Bangko to Dumai. It is now being investigated to find out what the causes of the pipe leak.

?PT CPI has done all necessary things needed after the leakage occurred. Those include taking victims of the oil outburst due to the leakage to nearest hospitals,? he said, adding that of seven victims, four of them had been allowed to go home.
