PT.Pembangkit Listrik Jawa Bali (PJB), a PLN unit that operates 800-MW Paiton power plant in Probolinggo, East Java, has awarded coal supply contract to Surabaya-based trading firm PT.Baskara Sinar Sakti, a Paiton official said.
Acting Assistant Manager Budi Setiawan told Petromindo.Com on Tuesday that the company was awarded supply for only 360,000 tonnes as other three short-listed bidders failed to meet qualification. He did not give detail.
PJB opened 720,000 tonnes coal supply tender for January-December 2008 delivery on November 6, 2007.
Budi said that Baskara was only able to meet half of the 720,000 tonnes Paiton earlier sought, adding that PJB will still be trying to procure another 360,000 tonnes through other suppliers. He, however, said Paiton might not re-tender the volume, adding that tender process would take time, while coal stock at Paiton is running thin.(denny)
