PJB, Masdar sign MoU on renewables development

Power producer PT Pembangkitan Jawa Bali (PJB), a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT PLN, had on July 16 signed a MoU with renewables developer Masdar, a subsidiary of United Arab Emirates? Mubadala Investment Company, to identify and develop renewable energy-based projects in Indonesia.
The Office of the Indonesian State Minister of State Owned Enterprises said in a statement on Monday that the MoU was signed by PJB President Director Iwan Agung Firstantara and CEO of Masdar Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, witnessed by State Minister of State Owned Enterprises Rini M. Soemarno, on the sidelines of a visit to the Middle East.
The statement said that according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Indonesia holds renewable power plants potential of more than 700 GW including 532.6 GW solar power.
PJB currently operates more than 12 GW power plants including coal-fired, gas-fired and hydro. PJB aims to diversify into renewables to help realize the government?s target for renewables to account for 23 percent of the country?s energy mix by 2025.
The statement said that Masdar has made investment worth around US$2.7 billion in various renewable projects in several countries during the past decade.
