PJB re-tenders low CV coal supply for Paiton

PT. Pembangkitan Jawa Bali (PJB), a unit state electricity firm PLN, said on Monday that it has re-tendered 480,000 tonnes of low CV coal supply for its Paiton power plant in East Java as the previous tender only attracted two suppliers, one supplier short of the minimum requirement.

Paiton Assistant Manager Puspo Hadi said the delivery for the new tender had been rescheduled to August 2008-August 2009 from June 2008-June 2009 earlier.

Thus far, he said, there are seven suppliers-all of them are traders- that had submitted bids for the tender, with winners(s) expected to be announced end of this month.

Puspo said that to cover June 2008 supply shortage, Paiton had directly bought 45,000 tonnes of coal from traders with price range of Rp.325,000-390,000 per tonnes CIF (US$=Rp.9,200) and for this month, Paiton would also directly buy 70,000 tonnes of coal from spot market.

Hadi hinted that price range for one-year contract might be set 10 percent higher from spot contract prices. (denny)
