PJB's boss questioned over alleged corruption at Muara Tawar power plant

Samiuddin, the president director of PT Pembangkit Jawa dan Bali (PJB), the subsidiary of PLN in charge of power plant operations in Java and Bali was questioned by the police on Wednesday as a witness in the alleged corruption charge at the Muara Tawar power plant in Bekasi.

The national police's spokesman Anton Bachrul Alam said that Samiuddin was questioned as witness in the alleged on corruption which had caused financial losses of billions of rupiah to the state.

Anton said that the PJB was questioned why he had chosen to buy second hand turbine rather than a new one for the Muara Tawar plant. But Samiuddin's lawyer Agus abdul Azis said that his client should be given an appreciation because his decision to buy the second hand turbine had been able to reduced costs by more than 40 percent.

The corruption at the Muara Tawar plant is one of several corruption cases at PLN which are now being investigated by the police. (*)
