PJB, SGS sign agreement to develop biomass power plant

Power producer PT Pembangkitan Java-Bali (PJB), a subsidiary of state-owned power company PT PLN, signed last week an agreement with timber company PT Sumber Graha Sejahtera (SGS) to team up in biomass based power plant projects.

PJB said in a statement seen Monday that the biomass power plant projects will utilize the waste products of timber processing plants owned by SGS across Indonesia. SGS is a unit of Samko Timber Ltd.

CEO of Samko, Aris Sunarko said that in Sumatra alone, the waste products from the company?s timber processing plants total about 1 million tons per year.

Meanwhile, then acting president director of PJB Muljo Adji said that construction of a pilot plant is expected to start soon. No further details were provided.
