Coal mining company PT Pesona Khatulistiwa Nusantara (PKN) revealed that its mine mouth power plant with a capacity 1x7.5 MW in Sekayan, Bulungan Regency, North Kalimantan Province, will be expanded with an additional capacity of up to 10 MW
President Director of PKN Jeffrey Mulyono told Petromindo.com on Thursday that the firm is currently preparing a proposal to state-owned electricity firm PT PLN for the expansion of the Sekayan power plant, the first unit of which started operation recently.
?Our power plant (first unit) is officially on stream this week, and the local governor asked us to expand the capacity, and we are ready to expand as long as the additional capacity will be treated as mine mouth power plant as well,? Jeffery said, adding that output from the 1x7.5 MW power plant is mostly used for the company?s own power need, and around 2 MW is sold to PLN as excess power.
?If the proposal is approved by PLN within 12 month we can commence the development,? he said.
