Coal miner PT Pesona Khatulistiwa Nusantara (PKN), recently started commercial phase of its coal upgrading facility in North Kalimantan.
The upgrading facility can increase the CV of PKN's coal from 3,200 kcal/kg to 4,200.
The company, however, had revised downward the annual production target of upgraded coal from the initial 1.2 million tons to 1 million tons due to the current market situation and cost consideration.
?For this year, we expect to produce 60 percent of this annual target,? PKN President Director Jeffry Mulyono told Petromindo.com.
He said that in the future, the upgrading facility could ramp up the calorific value to 5,400 kcal/kg.
PKN has 135 million tons of coal reserves with CV 3,000 ? 3,600 kcal/kg (GAR), low ash, low sulphur, and high moisture at its Bulungan Regency mine, in North Kalimantan.
