PKN?s coal upgrading plant to operate next year

Indonesia coal mining company Pesona Khatulistiwa Nusantara (PKN) expected its coal upgrading plant in Sekayan, East Kalimantan would commence production by July next year.

Jeffrey Mulyono, PKN?s President Director told Petromindo.com on Wednesday that the project has secured all the required environment impact analysis (Amdal) documents.

"The project is on schedule, we expect it would operate by July 2014,? he said adding that the input capacity of the plant would be about 1.2 million tons per annum with about 700,000 tons output.

Jeffrey added that the upgrading coal project developed in Sekayan is in cooperation with a Chinese company. The project is expected to increase the calorific value of coal from 3,000 kcal/kg up to about 5,000 kcal/kg.
