Coal mining company PT Pesona Khatulistiwa Nusantara (PKN) is expected to start the commissioning of its coal upgrading facility at the end of March 2015. The coal upgrading facility will require input of 1.2 million tons of 3,200 kcal/kg of low rank coal per year to produce 700,000 tons per year of coal with calorific value of 5,000 kcal/kg.

?We estimate that the commissioning of coal upgrading facility will be at the end of March 2015,? PKN?s Business Development and General Director Tria Suprajeni said to Petromindo.com. He claimed that it will be the first coal upgrading facility in Indonesia once it starts the commissioning.

PKN teams up with PT ZJG Resources Technology in building the coal upgrading plant and also involves Chinese investor to develop the coal upgrading technology.

PKN, which operates a 21,875 ha coal mine in Bulungan Regency, East Kalimantan, is also constructing a 7.5 MW coal-fired power plant.
