Coal mining company PT Pesona Khatulistiwa Nusantara (PKN) has set a target to complete a coal upgrading project in Bulungan Regency, East Kalimantan, in cooperation with a Chinese company, in June of 2013.

PKN CEO Tria Suprajeni said on Tuesday that the US$10-20 million project will upgrade coal with calorific value of 3,100 kcal per kg to 5,800-6,200 kcal per kg.

?If construction can be started within the next 1-2 months, then upgrading can be implemented in June of next year,? Tria told Petromindo.com

The company sees two potential markets. The products could be sold to its Chinese partner, or acquired by the company to be sold to buyers in India and China.
