Coal mining company PT Pesona Khatulistiwa Nusantara (PKN) said that it would start the commissioning of its coal upgrading facility in Sekayan, North Kalimantan, before the end of this year.
President Director Jeffrey Mulyono told Petromindo.com recently that all components for the upgrading plant have arrived in Bulungan, North Kalimantan since late August.
"All of the components for the plant have been unloaded, the foundation at the plant location has been completed, and currently we?re carrying out the assembling process, hence we expect to start the commissioning by November or December of this year," Jeffrey said, adding that initially the project was expected to be commissioned in July 2015. "But it was late due to the permit (process) at BKPM and Customs Office" he said, referring to the Investment Coordinating Board.
The coal upgrading facility will require input of 1.2 million tons of 3,200 kcal/kg of low rank coal per year to produce 700,000 tons per year of coal with calorific value of 5,000 kcal/kg.
PKN teams up with PT ZJG Resources Technology in building the coal upgrading plant and also engages a Chinese investor to develop the coal upgrading technology.
