Coal mining company PT Pesona Khatulistiwa Nusantara (PKN) will break the grounds for the construction of its coal upgrading plant in Sekayan, North Kalimantan within a month.

President Director Jeffrey Mulyono told to Petromindo.com on Tuesday that the company is cooperating with a Chinese firm to develop the project which will be equipped with Chinese-made coal upgrading technology.

"We will start construction in the fourth quarter of 2013 or next month and the plant will use a technology that has been applied in Mongolia, a proven technology of coal upgrading," Jeffrey said adding that the plant will have an output capacity of 700,000 tons per year from an input of 1.2 million tons per year.

"By June 2014, we expect to commence the production," Jeffrey.

Total investment of the project is about US$ 7.5 million, he said, adding PKN will supply the plant with its coal based on a 20-year contract
