PLN: 1,413 MW power plants to be developed in South, Central Kalimantan

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN said that a total of 1,413 MW of power plants will be developed in South and Central Kalimantan (Kalselteng region) through to 2019 in a bid to meet growing demand in the region.
PLN Business Director for Kalimantan region, Djoko R. Abumanan said in a statement late last week that the utility firm will also develop 2,606 kilometer circuits of 150 kV transmission lines in the two provinces to help reach an electrification ratio of 92 percent by 2019 in the region.
The region?s Barito electricity system currently has installed power capacity of 623 MW, with a power surplus of 100 MW from the operation of the 2x60 MW Pulang Pisau coal-fired (PLTU) power plant in Pulang Pisau Regency, and the 155 MW Bangkanai gas engine power plant in Barito Utara Regency. (*)
