PLN accelerates electricity projects in Sorong

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN is accelerating several electricity projects in Sorong, West Papua Province, including power plants, substations, and a transmission line, which are all targeted to be completed by 2019.

PLN Business Director for Maluku and Papua Region, Harywanto WS told Petromindo.com on Friday that the projects in Sorong form part of efforts to help meet the target for electrification ratio in the Papua region to jump to 90 percent by 2019.

Haryanto said that a number of power plant projects in Sorong will be completed in 2018 including gas a 30 MW gas-fired power plant (PLTG), a 66-kms 150 kv transmission line, and three 150 kV substations (GI) including GI Sorong, GI Aimas and GI Rufei with combined capacity of 180 MVA.

?We?re bolstering the electricity capacity in Sorong. The electrification ratio in Papua and West Papua provinces is targeted to increase to 90 percent by 2019. Not all projects can be completed in 2018, some will be in 2019 such as PLTG Sorong 20 MW. In 2022, there will be PLTG Sorong II with capacity of 100 MW,? Haryanto said.

According to a PLN roadmap, installed power capacity in Sorong is projected to increase to 198 MW by 2022.
