An additional power supply of 1,600 megawatts (MW) is now available for industrial and business customers in the Greater Jakarta area following the recent operation of several major plants in Java, The Jakarta Post reported Thursday.

With the additional supply state electricity utility PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) can provide new connections to business and industrial customers in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi, Gunung Putri, Karawang and North Banten.

With the increase in the power supply, PLN would be able to significantly reduce the number of applicants, especially business and industrial companies, on the waiting list, PLN president director Dahian Iskan said Wednesday.

?We have given close attention to the power needs of our industrial sector? he said at the official launching of the new connections held at the Jakarta International Exhibition Center in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.,

A similar program would be launched in Central Java and East Java next year, Dahlan said.

?For Central Java and East Java we expect that we can provide new connections in May 2011? he said, adding that the new connections in the two provinces would need about 1,000 megawatts in additional supply. (*)
