State-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero) has strengthened the reliability and stability of the power system on Belitung Island, Bangka Belitung Islands Province, following the completion of a 10 MW capacity addition at the Padang Diesel Power Plant (PLTD) complex in East Belitung.

The new generating unit began operating on December 3, 2025, immediately reinforcing the interconnected power system between Belitung and East Belitung.

Prior to the upgrade, the Belitung power system had an available capacity of 85.08 MW with a reserve margin of around 22.78 MW, while peak demand reached 62.3 MW. With the addition of the new 10 MW unit, available capacity has increased to 95.08 MW and the reserve margin has expanded to 32.78 MW.

PLN said the additional capacity significantly enhances system resilience, ensuring that electricity supply can be maintained even if one of the main generating units experiences a disturbance.
