PLN aims to complete PLTU Waai project in 2019

State-owned electricity company PT PLN, which has taken over construction of a stalled 2x15 MW coal-fired power plant (PLTU) project in Waai Village, Maluku Tengah Regency, Maluku Province, aims to complete the project in 2019.

PLN Business Director for Maluku-Papua Region Haryanto WS told Petromindo.com on Friday that construction will be started this year as the company has obtained legal clearance from the Attorney General?s Office for the project.

He added that PLN is currently waiting for verification process by the Finance and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) over the investment cost of the project.

The PLTU Waai project is one of the 34 power plant projects planned by the previous government whose construction have been stalled due to various reasons. The government has assigned PLN to continue the PLTU Waai project. As has been previously reported, PT Saktimas Mulia, the original owner of the project, could not complete construction of the power plant due to financial difficulties.
