State electricity company PT PLN and PT Bio Energy Prima have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for a cooperation to test a gassification unit at a diesel fuel power plant in Sorek, Pelalawan regency in Riau province.

PLN said in Jakarta on Monday that the MOU was signed today by PLN's General Manager for Riau and Riau Islands region, Djoko Raharjdo Abumanan, and by PT Bio Energy Prima's Director Roy Santoso Wibowo, and was witnessed by PLN's director of western Indonesian operation, Harry Jaya Pahlawan.

The cooperation will require Bio Energy Prima conducting a test of a gassification unit for a 250-kilowatt (currently diesel-fueled) power plant in Sorek in order to study the possibility of using Synthetic Natural Gas, or commonly known as syngas. It is expected that the quantity and quality of the syngas is good so that it can replace the oil fuel for PLN's diesel fuel power plants.

The test will be conducted by Bio Energy Prima within the period of two months with an operational time of 24 hours everyday depending on technical condition.

Later the test will be followed up with a commercial agreement between the two entities to use the syngas as a replacement to the oil fuel at diesel fuel power plants owned by PLN.
