State utility PT PLN and PT MRT Jakarta signed on Tuesday a power sale and purchase agreement (SPJBTL) to provide power supply for the mass rapid transportation (MRT) project in Jakarta.

?This agreement is very important for both companies. It will secure the power supply for the operation of the whole Jakarta MRT and the maintenance of power system by PLN for the MRT,? PT MRT Jakarta?s Construction Director Silvia Halim said after signing the deal with PT PLN?s Greater Jakarta Distribution (Disjaya) General Manager Syamsul Huda in the office building of PT MRT Jakarta.

Agung Wicaksono, operation and maintenance director of PT MRT Jakarta said on Wednesday that the total need of power for the operation of MRT Jakarta is 60 megawatt (MW), especially at peak hour.

He said that both sides agreed on the silver premium tariff, which is the tariff of big industries plus Rp 55 per KWh or around Rp 1300. ?The power will start to be supplied by PLN one year from now,? he told Petromindo on Wednesday.

The power supply for the MRT consists of power supply to the railway tracks and stations, and the MRT stations from Lebak Bulus to Bundaran HI. Currently, PT MRT Jakarta is constructing a power substation of 150 kV in Taman PKK Sambas, South Jakarta, and high voltage cable connection (SKTT) of 150kV to connect the PLN substation in Pondok Indah and PLN substation in CSW. The substation in Taman PKK Sambas was scheduled to start operation in December 2017.

The deal between PT MRT Jakarta and PT PLN (Persero) is part of the finalization of the construction of Jakarta MRT phase-1 linking Lebak Bulus on South corridor and Bundaran HI on north corridor, which has been 62 percent completed so far.

The Jakarta MRT will start commercial operation in February 2019.
