PLN and PT Global to build waste-fired power plant

State owned electricity company PLN, through its branch in Yogyakarta, will build a waste-fired power plant in the province, in cooperation with private company PT Global Waste Solution, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Thursday.
Purnomo Willy BS, the general manager of PLN's branch in Yogyakarta, said in Semarang on Wednesday that the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the construction of the power plant had been signed by the two companies recently.
According to Purnomo, the power plant which would be built in Piyungan, Slemen Regency would be the first power plant using waste as its fuel. The investment for the construction of the 25-MW power plant will reach about US$25 million, he said.
Purnomo said that the construction of the new power plant would be begun in the middle of this year. "The construction works, which will last about 18 months, is expected to be completed in early 2007," he added. (*)
