PLN, Arutmin in spot coal supply talks

Wednesday, June 13 2007 - 03:27 AM WIB

State electricity firm PLN is in talks with South Kalimantan miner PT Arutmin Indonesia to buy spot coal to fuel its Asam-Asam 2x65 MW power plant in South Kalimantan.

PLN Deputy Director Tonny Agus Mulyantono said the spot coal was needed as supply to the plant was cut sharply on heavy rains that hit its regular suppliers' mines.

Reports in media said that currently coal in the stockpile was only enough for one day operations, as only one supplier PT.Jorong Barutama Greston, a unit of Banpu Plc, continues to supply the plant.

Tonny did not specify the volume of the coal PLN was seeking from Arutmin.

Arutmin Marketing Manager told Petromindo.Com on Wednesday that the company is looking to become a long-term supplier for Asam-Asam.(godang)
