PLN awaits approval for mini LNG plants

State-owned electricity company PLN is awaiting for the government?s approval over its plans to develop mini LNG plants in Bali, Makasar (South Sulawesi), and Balikpapan (East Kalimantan).

PLN Head of Fuel and Gas Division, Suryadi Mardjoeki told Petromindo.com on Thursday that the planned mini LNG units are crucial to supply the necessary gas for the Pesanggaran gas fired power plant in Bali, IKI plant in Makasar, and Tj Batu and Batakan plants in Balikpapan.

?The challenge? The approval for the development of the mini LNG plants have ye to be issued by the Directorate General of Oil and Gas,? Suryadi said.

He said that the mini LNG plant in Bali would be constructed by PLN?s subsidiary PT Indonesia Power, while the one in East Kalimantan would be developed by PT Perta Daya Gas, a unit of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina.

Suryadi said that the gas-fired power plant in Bali requires gas supply of 30 mmscfd, while the in Makasar needs a supply of 10 mmscfd, and in East Kalimantan about 30 mmscfd.
