The 88 WM PLTA Puesangan is designed to have two units, Puesangan Unit 1 and Unit 2, with the capacity of 2x22.5 MW and 2x21.5 MW respectively.
The works for the project are divided by PLN into several packages or lots with Andritz awarded the contract to handle the electromechanical works.
The electromechanical works have to be completed in 42 months. The works include the provision and installation of Francis turbine and generator along with its auxiliaries for two power houses with the capacities of 2.22.1 MW and 2.21.5 MW respectively, aside from the works to install 150 kV outdoor switchgear at PLTA Peusangan PH-1 and PH-2, PLN said in a statement.
Other work packages for the project are civil engineering works that will be handled by the consortium of Hyundai-PT Pembangunan Perumahan (PP); metal works which will be handled by the consortium of PT Wijaya Karya (Wika)-PT Amarta Karya; and works to install 150 kV transmission line and to construct substation which will be handled by the consortium of PT Balfour Beatty-PT Karunia Berca.
The project worth US$217.8 million will be built using loans from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
PLN plans to transmit the power from the power plant to North Sumatra and Aceh over a 150 kV High Voltage Overhead Lines through the Takengon and Biruen substations, both in Aceh.
?Finally, we can sign the contract and I am happy that the project can be resumed. The project has been postponed for many years due to several obstacles including security problems,? Nur said.
Ullmer also expressed happiness, that Andritz could come back to Indonesia to handle hydropower project. ?Several years ago, we successfully worked on PLTA Musi project (in South Sumatra). We are pleased that we can come back to develop another PLTA project here,? he said.
