The Bali distribution arm of state-owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) hopes to be able to start next year installation of undersea cable from Bali Island to the nearby Nusa Lembongan Island to help secure power supply in the latter region, Bisnis Indonesia daily reported on Wednesday.
The paper quoted Syamsul Huda, General Manager of PLN Bali, as saying that the length of the undersea cable is estimated at 18 kilometers, with capacity to distribute 10 MW of electricity, deemed sufficient to supply power to the three islands of Lembongan, Penida, Ceningan.
Syamsul said that once approved by the PLN head office, installation of the cable is set to begin early next year. ?We hope to be able to realize the project next year. The cable installation needs to observe the water current,? he said. (*)
