PT PLN Batam, a subsidiary of state owned electricity company Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), has finally operated its own gas-fired power plant (PLTG) with a capacity of 25 megawatt in Panaran, Kompas reported on Wednesday.
Senior communication manager Agus Subekti said on Tuesday that the new power plant would significantly increased the power supply on the Batam island. Previously PLN Batam received power supply of 197 MW from gas-fired power plants in Panaran, but all of them were operated and owned by independent power producers.
?The new one is now really owned by PLN Batam,? he was quoted as saying. PLN Batam is currently building a coal-fired power plant to further increase the power supply. The new plant is now under trial operation. (*)
