PLN Batam plans minor overhaul of Tanjung Kasam plant

State-owned electricity company PT PLN?s Batam unit (PLN Batam) plans to soon carry out minor overhaul of the 110 MW Tanjung Kasam coal-fired power plant in Batam, Riau Islands.

PLN Batam Corporate Communication officer Rudi Antono was quoted by the local Batampos.co.id as saying Wednesday that due to the overhaul work, PLN will lose a total of 55 MW power capacity, which in turn will cause customers to suffer brownouts from July 23 to August 6, during weekdays between Monday and Friday. Each customer will suffer brownout in every two days for between 2 and 2.5 hours, he added.

Rudi said that the minor overhaul will reduce PLN?s power capacity from the current 340 MW to 285 MW, thus forcing the company to be unable to meet the entire electricity demand on the Batam Island where peak load stands 311 MW. (*)
