PLN begins construction of Baubau PLTMG project

State-owned electricity company PT PLN held a ground-breaking ceremony on Tuesday to mark the start of construction for the planned 30 MW Baubau gas engine power plant (PLTMG) project in Baubau city, Southeast Sulawesi.
PLN Director of Business for Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara Region, Machnizon Masri said in a statement that the power plant is targeted to start operation in July of next year to supply electricity to a number of areas including Baubau, Buton, South Buton, Central Buton, Muna and West Muna.
The Baubau city currently has installed power capacity of 36.49 MW and peak load of 23.48 MW, with total number of electricity customers reaching 152,198. The electrification ratio in Southeast Sulawesi currently stands at 85.86 percent.
