State-owned electricity firm PT PLN said it had on Wednesday started construction of a 500 kV extra high voltage elevated transmission line (section 2 of the northern Java transmission line project) linking Ungaran in Semarang Regency and Batang Regency, both in Central Java Province.
PLN said in a statement that the 88-km transmission line is expected to be completed in February 2019.
The company said the transmission line will connect three coal-fired power plant projects, namely PLTU Tanjung Jati, PLTU Batang, and PLTU Indramayu with the Cibatu Baru power substation in Garut, West Java Province.
The transmission line project is estimated to cost around Rp 2.5 trillion including for land acquisition.
The transmission line project forms part of the overall northern Java 500 kV extra high voltage elevated transmission lines being developed by PLN in Central and West Java provinces, which are divided into six sections including section 1 (Tanjung Jati ? Ungaran), section 2 (Ungaran-Batang), section 3 (Batang-Mandirancan 1), section 4 (Batang-Mandirancan 2), section 5 (Mandirancan-Indramayu), and section 6 (Indramayu-Cibatu Baru).
