PLN begins geothermal project in Ambon

PLN Geothermal, a subsidiary of state owned electricity company Perusahaaan Listrik Negara (PLN), has begun the development of a geothermal field in Tulehu, Ambon.

The company?s president director Tjahjo Sasmojo said Thursday that steam from the geothermal field would be used to feed a geothermal power plant it planned to build at the location.

He said that the construction of the 2x10 MW PLTP Tulehu was expected to be completed in 2014. According to him, the operation of the geothermal plant would allow the firm to save diesel oil consumption worth about Rp 250 billion a year.(godang)
