M. Sofyan, the head of the company?s new and renewable energy division, said in Jakarta on Thursday that the pilot project which is located in a low speed area in the province would be used as the basis for the development of wind power plants in the country.
He said that the development of the wind power generation was relatively cheaper with an average cost of about Rp 800 per kilowatt (kWt) for wind power plant with a wind speed of lower than 6 meter per second. For a comparison, in Indonesia the average wind speed is between two and five meters per second.
A number of wind power plants were currently being proposed for development. They include a small-scale wind power plant with a capacity of 10 megawatt in Sumba, West Nusa Tenggara, 30-MW wind power plant in Sukabumi, West Java and a 15-MW wind power plant in Parang Tritis, Yogyakarta.
He said that the wind power plant in Sukabumi would be developed by PT Viron Energi, which had officially proposed for the signing for the power purchase agreement with PLN. ?We have asked for the permit and approval from the energy and mineral resources minister,? he said, adding that PLN would soon propose the result of the negotiation to the minister.
