Malaysia?s electricity firm Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has signed an MoU with its Indonesian counterpart, state-owned electricity firm PLN, and coal miner PT Bukit Asam to develop an interconnection line and mine mouth coal-fired power plant.

The 275 KV interconnection line will span from Telok Gong in the Malaysia?s state of Malacca to Garuda Sakti in Indonesia?s Sumatra Island. Meanwhile, the power plant will be developed in Peranap, Riau, according to a statement issued by TNB on Monday.

It is anticipated that the two-year MoU will facilitate cross border electricity-exchange and such co-operation will greatly benefit the two countries. Parties will start exploring and studying the best business models, associated risks and financing options to ensure that the contemplated projects can be successfully implemented, TNB said.
