State-owned electricity company PLN will buy electricity from the Purwakarta, West Java based textile company PT Indorama Synthetic Tbk to cope with the shortage in PLN's power supply.

The power purchase agreement was signed by Murtaqi Syamsuddin, the general manager of PLN's operations for West Java and Banten and a senior executive of the textile company in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Under the agreement, PLN would buy Indorama's power surplus of about 8 million kilo watt hour (kWh) a month in a 6-month contract at the price of Rp 460 kWh. The power supply will be distributed through PLN's Java and Bali power interconnection grid.

Murtaqi said that the power purchase from Indorama would enable PLN to save Rp 45 billion during the 6-month contract.

Indorama Synthetic, which operates a 13-MW coal-fired power plant in its industrial complex in Purwakarta, has been in surplus of power supply. (Godang)
