PLN, Chinese firms sign EPC contract for three power plants

State electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) signed on Tuesday engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) contracts with two consortiums for the construction of three coal-fired power plants in Java as part of the effort to provide an additional power supplies of 10,000 MW.

The consortiums are the  Dong Fang Electric Corporation-Dalle Energy consortium that has won the right to build two coal-fired power plants, that is the 2x315 MW Pacitan power plant  in East Java and the 3x315 Teluk Naga power plant in Banten and  the Shanghai Electric Corporation-Maxima Infrastructure consortium that has won the right to build the 3x350 MW Pelabuhan Ratu power plant in Banten, PLN's Deputy Director for Primary Energy Tony Agus Mulyantono said.

The Dong Fang-Daller consortium offered a selling price of 4.3452 U.S. cents per kWh for its power  in the tender for the construction of Pacitan power plant. For the construction of the Teluk Naga plant, Dong Fang offered a selling price of 4.4391 U.S. cents per kWh.

As for the Pelabuhan Ratu power plant, the Shanghai-Maxima consortium offered a selling price of 4.3059 U.S. cents per kWh for power to be generated at the power plant.

Earlier, PLN’s Director for Power and Primary Energy Ali Herman Ibrahim said that the construction of the coal-fired power plants is expected to be completed within 36 months.

The government has decided to fully guarantee all of the financial risks related to PLN’s coal-fired power plant projects aimed to provide additional power supply of 10,000 Megawatt. (godang)
