The 40 megawatt (MW) Luwuk Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTMG) project in Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi, undertaken by PLN Enjiniring, a subsidiary of the state-owned electricity company PT PLN, was completed by the end of 2024.
The completion of the Luwuk PLTMG project followed the issuance of the Operational Feasibility Certificate (or SLO) for all units, which were granted from December 23 to 30, 2024.
PLN Enjiniring stated that the 40 MW Luwuk PLTMG is projected to supply electricity to over 30,000 households and meet industrial demand of 30 MW over the next two years.
In addition, the Luwuk PLTMG will help reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 75,000 tons annually, contributing to energy sustainability.
Chairani Rachmatullah, CEO of PLN Enjiniring, expressed pride in completing the Luwuk PLTMG project, which plays a strategic role in meeting energy needs in Central Sulawesi.

“This achievement not only demonstrates the technical and financial capabilities of PLN Enjiniring but also highlights the importance of coordination and collaboration among all parties involved,” said Chairani, as reported by local news outlet Sangalu.com.
As part of PLN Enjiniring’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, Chairani hopes that the completion of the Luwuk PLTMG project will serve as a concrete example for future energy projects.
“We are committed to continuing the development of environmentally friendly energy solutions, supporting equitable access to energy, and making significant contributions to Indonesia’s economic development,” she added.
This marks the first time PLN Enjiniring has acted as the Engineering Procurement Construction (EPC) contractor. Throughout the project, PLN Enjiniring has been involved from the pre-execution phase, during the implementation, and now into the operational phase.
This achievement underscores PLN Enjiniring's professionalism in addressing challenges, particularly in completing the project that had been delayed since 2019, through intensive coordination, cross-party collaboration, and the dedication of all involved teams.
The Luwuk PLTMG, which operates five engines, receives gas supply from the Joint Operating Body Pertamina Medco E&P Tomori Sulawesi (JOB Tomori), amounting to 5 billion British thermal units per day (BBTUD).
