PLN completes substation for Microsoft data center

PT PLN (Persero) has completed and energized a 150 kilovolt high voltage substation serving Microsoft’s JKT 11 A and B data center facilities in Cikarang, West Java, the state utility said.

The substation is located in the Greenland International Industrial Centre in Kota Deltamas and has passed all technical stages prior to energization. The project was finished ahead of the initial end February target, according to PLN.

PLN said the facility will provide reliable, stable and continuous power supply required for round the clock operation of data centers, which are critical infrastructure for digital services.

Widya Anggoro Putro, general manager of PLN’s Central Java development unit, said the project supports investor confidence, noting that several international companies operate data centers in the GIIC area, including Microsoft.

PLN said it will gradually energize additional Microsoft data center connections through the 150 kilovolt Marga Karya and Pinayungan substations.
