PLN cuts fuels consumption to 2.04 million kl in Q1

State electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said Tuesday that the company had managed to cut fuels consumption by 27.2 percent to 2.036 million kiloliters (kl) in the first quarter of 2009 compared to 2.79 million last year in the corresponding period.

The cutting of the fuels consumption can save the company?s operational cost up to Rp 3.7 trillion (1US$= Rp 10,840), PLN?s President Director Fahmi Mochtar said.

Natural gas consumption, meanwhile, increased to 57,900 BBTU from 43,400 BBTU, he said.

Meanwhile, coal consumption during the quarter reached 5.37 million tons, higher compared to 4.80 million tons in the same quarter of last year, he added.(*)
