PLN demands Rp 18t in extra subsidy

State electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has proposed for an additional subsidy worth Rp 18 trillion to the Hose of Representatives.
Member of the House of Representatives' Commission VII on energy Satya W. Yudha said on Monday the increase was necessary due to soaring fuel and coal prices.
The commission will discuss the request soon.
The House had endorsed Rp 41.2 trillion in electricity subsidy for 2011.
Satya had previously said the increase in the subsidy was unavoidable but PLN should also be able to improve its efficiency so that the surge in the subsidy could be limited. (bernard)
