State-owned electricity firm PT PLN is currently developing a 150 kV underground power transmission line in Madura, East Java, which is targeted to be completed in June 2018.
PLN Director of Eastern Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara Region, Djoko Rahardjo said on Friday that the 8.5-km high voltage transmission line will link Kendinding in the East Java capital city of Surabaya to a tower at the end of the Suramadu Bridge in Madura, which will be connected with 150 kV transmission network to the Bangkalan substation.
Djoko said that the estimated Rp 300 billion transmission line project will help strengthen power supply reliability on Madura Island as the utility company anticipates rising demand.
?This (project) forms part of efforts by PLN to strengthen electricity supply in Madura. The project comprises of two circuits, namely circuit 3 and 4,? he explained.
Djoko said that power demand on Madura Island currently stands at 140 MW, supplied via underground cables circuit 1 and 2. Electrification ratio in Madura currently stands at 66 percent, lower compared to national average of around 91 percent, he said.
