PLN develops undersea cable in Lombok

State-owned electricity firm PT PLN is currently developing a 20 kV undersea electricity cable to link the Gili Gede Island with the Lombok electricity system, in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province.
PLN Director of Business for Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara Region, Machnizon Masri said in a statement on Tuesday that once the 2.4 kms undersea cable is completed, hopefully in December of this year, electricity can be supplied to the Gili Gede Island, a tourist destination inhabited by some 450 fishermen households.
According to PLN, electrification ratio in NTB at the end of last year stood at 77.68 percent, and is targeted to increase to 88.5 percent in 2019.
