PT PLN Energi Gas has successfully completed gas-in operations at the Tarakan LNG regasification facility, North Kalimantan, marking the first regasification project fully owned and operated by the company.

The mini-LNG terminal, storage, and regasification unit were developed to secure a stable gas supply for PLN Tarakan’s 53 MW gas-fired power plant, which had previously been operating at 20–30 MW due to limited gas availability. The facility will help ensure reliable electricity supply for the city and surrounding areas.

PT. Gheni Artha Sejahtera (GAS Solution), the project management consultant (PMC) for the project, congratulated PLN Energi Gas on the achievement, noting that the milestone reflects the commitment and collaborative effort of the project team from inception through completion.

The Tarakan facility, contracted to PT PLN Nusantara Power Construction (PLN NPC) in September 2024, had its first main equipment installed in March 2025, including two Ambient Air Vaporizers (AAV) with a combined capacity of 3,000 Nm³/hour. Construction of the entire facility is scheduled for completion within 2025.
